Olive Oil Route

Les Garrigues cuisine shares  the Mediterranean flavour. The local extra virgin olive oil of Arbequina olives is thought to be one of the best olive oils in the world, due to its low acidity rate (0.2°).

In winter time, from the beginning of December well into February, outings to les Garrigues village cooperatives  in search of the new olive oil have become increasingly common.

The local olive oil, produced every year is a natural product. It is well appreciated for its artisanal production, and is marketed as the Denominació d’Origen les Garrigues (Les Garrigues origin label).

Come to les Garrigues to enjoy yourselves on the olive oil route. Come here to taste the best olive oil in the world and to find out how it  is born.  Discover and explore the attractions of this area.

In addition to some of the cooperatives that exist in each town, take an opportunity to visit the castles of  La Floresta and that of L’Espluga Calba, the Romanesque church of Vinaixa, the villages with beautiful cobblestone alleys (El Vilosell, La Pobla de Cérvoles…), the Ecomuseum of La Pobla de Cérvoles, the Center for the Culture of Olive Oil of Catalonia and the Museum of the Oil of Catalonia in Granadella, Castelldans Museu de l’Oli i del Món Rural (olive oil and rural world museum), Borges Blanques Parc Temàtic de l’Oli (olive oil theme park), La Floresta Museu de la Pedra (museum), the Iberian settlement in Vilars d’Arbeca or the cave paintings in Cogull, which are just some of the attractions in les Garrigues.
