Puiggròs

Puiggròs is inhabited by 257 people (2022) who live on the slopes of a hill, lending its name to the village.

As you will see, the castle-palace Castell-Palau de Puiggròs used to be central in the village. Some walls still remain with Gothic windows and gates decorated with keystones and the manor lords’ coats-of-arms. The alleys are grouped around the castle. Its  Portal, used to control the entrance to and exit from La Vila Closa is still preserved. From here you get  magnificent views.

The Romanesque Santa Maria parish church, built of carved stone, features a square belltower.

The old Town Hall used to house a carved stone extolling the virtues of Isabel II of Castille.

In the modern part of the village, the Cultural and Recreation Centre stands out.

An urban painting mural entitled Les rentadores, by the Lleida artist Lily Brick, depicting a rural scene, decorates a wall in Carrer de la Creu.

The Festa Major is celebrated in Puiggròs on the last weekend of July. The Cultural Spring takes place during the month of May.
