ACEITE

OIL

Les Garrigues extra virgin olive oil, made with Arbequina olives, is an oil with extraordinary culinary, dietary and medicinal properties. In addition, its organoleptic characteristics make it appreciated internationally. Its smooth  fruity olive flavour make it suitable for raw consumption  in salads, toasts, bread with tomato, etc.

 

VINO

WINE

The Garrigues wineries produce high quality wines, which  have international fame and recognition. These wineries belong to the Costers del Segre designation of origin, native to the sub-zone of Les Garrigues.

FRUTA DULCE

SWEET FRUIT

Arbeca, Les Borges Blanques, Juneda, Puiggròs and part of Castelldans form an area, where alfalfa, corn and, above all, fruit, like apple, pear and peach are cultivated, largely  thanks to the waters of the Urgell canal.

 

ORELLETES

ORELLETS

These are the traditional sweets from the region. Up till this day, they are a staple of every Festa Major,  people make them at home and bring them  to share and celebrate.  Throughout the year, orelletes are sold in bakeries and pastry shops.

 

PAN DE RIÑÓN

PA DE RONYÓ

Pa de ronyó  is distinct amongst the breads made in the region. It´s shape resembles a kidney, hence the name, and it can only be baked in  wood-fired ovens. Bakeries in Borges Blanques and Cervià preserve the age-old tradition of baking pa de ronyó. 

 

FRUTOS SECOS

DRY FRUIT
The most cultivated dried fruit in the region is  almond, wide-spread in all its varieties. In recent years, artisanal production processes have proliferated. Hence salted, toasted, chocolate almonds or garapinyada became common specialty in the region.

MIEL

HONEY

Rosemary honey, honey of a thousand flowers and many other varieties are produced in Les Garrigues and can be found in the local shops.

 

MERMELADAS, CONSERVAS Y MEMBRILLO

JAMS, PRESERVES, QUINCE

Jams, preserves and quince cheese are made with the local fruit in Les Garrigues.

AZAFRÁN

SAFFRON

Saffron, one of the historical crops of the area, was brought back a few years ago. The saffron flowers – crocus sativus – are collected between the months of October and November, every morning and one at a time.

 

LÁCTICOS

DAIRY PRODUCTS

Pasteurized milk, natural yogurt, whipped yogurt, fresh cheese and cottage cheese have also been produced in the region for  years.

 

EMBUTIDOS

SAUSAGES

There are many varieties of pork sausages, made in the region: dry sausage, black sausage, white sausage, sausage made of tongue…

LICORES

LIQUEURS 

Liqueurs have been made by hand in the region. Amongst the many choices there are walnut wine, herbal liqueur, coffee liqueur and vermouth.
